UC Falls To 2nd Ranked Tennessee Wesleyan In The NAIA Tourney

Kingsport, TN- UC dropped today’s game 14-1 against Tennessee Wesleyan in the NAIA Opening Round. The Patriots made five mistakes in today’s defeat and were dismissed 17-9.

Thomas Gutierrez started on the mound and allowed five runs from eight hits with three runs and one strike in 3.2 innings. Caleb Plummer came to relief and played 3.1 innings giving six hits for six runs but earned only four. He has also done three strike outs. Jared Shelton also came into relief and played 1.2 innings, making three runs off three hits and two strikes. Shane Jones came in for the final dismissal in the top of the ninth to make his first appearance of the season.

In a slow offensive play, Sean Cheeley was the only Patriot with as many hits as he led 3-5 with a double. Rafi Almanjar scored the goal in the first frame as the Patriots went through only a single homerun.

At the bottom of the first Almanjar stepped to the plate and hit a single shot to the left center to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded with two runs on top of the other and never looked back. The Pats were able to get the Runners into scoring position, but could not score a home run to score, while Tennessee Wesleyan scored throughout the game to win 14–1.
