Top 6 CMS For Core Web Vitals

HTTPArchive has published the latest ranking for the top performing Content Management System (CMS). We review a ranking of six popular CMS’s and find that the best-performing CMS outperforms its competitors by a huge margin.

As before, we continue to review data for the United States geographic region.

Global data differs slightly from United States data, but not to the extent that it replaces the ranking position of any CMS under review.

How Core Web Vital CMS Ranking is Determined

HTTPArchive uses two datasets To arrive at the main web vitals ranking of all content management systems.

The datasets used by HTTPArchive are:

  1. CRUX dataset
  2. lab dataset

CRUX dataset

The CRUX dataset comes from actual website visits by real people, who have anonymously allowed Core Web Vitals data to be collected from the websites they visit.

lab dataset

The Lab dataset comes from a crawler that collects data from millions of websites. The lab data simulates mobile devices and mobile connectivity to arrive at the ranking score.

These two datasets are used to determine the key web vitals scores for all CMSs and publish them for review.

#1 Core Webb Vitals Champion: Duda

Duda is a professional website builder platform that allows businesses to get online faster without having to think about the underlying technology.

The goal is to give customers the ability to focus on their business while Duda takes care of the technology. It’s an approach that is shared by other companies like Wix and Squarespace.

Of those three website builder platforms, it is Duda that is leading the way.

Last time we reviewed the HTTPArchive Technology Report data, Duda was leading the pack by a significant margin.

This trend continues with the latest performance data to be published, which is from February 2022.

The percentage of websites built with Duda that had good Core Web Vital performance was an astonishing 77.3%.

The percentage of websites performing well in October 2021 was 69.3%.

Duda’s performance benchmark improved by 8%.

Here’s a comparison of the three website building platforms in this review:

SaaS Website Builders CWV Score Comparison

  • Duda 77.3%
  • Wix 54.0%
  • Squarespace 42.8%

Duda is not only leading the competition, he is outpacing him by an extraordinarily wide margin.

In second place, website builder competitor Wix is behind Duda by more than 23 percentage points.

In a way this shouldn’t be surprising because last time we spoke to Duda he indicated that website performance was an important goal for him.

He shared that it took a data-driven approach to identify areas of improvement and then released updates to customer websites so that they could enjoy better and faster performance.

A spokesperson for Duda shared:

“Using this data driven approach we were able to identify opportunities for improvement.

We applied those fixes and re-checked the improvements using our BI tools.

It was a successful iterative approach that helped us increase the score over time.”

#2 Core Web Vitals Champion: Drupal

Second place is the CWV champion open source CMS Drupal, beating the second place previously held by Wix.

#3 Core Webb Vitals Champion: Wix

This time, instead of improving performance, the percentage of sites with passing core web vitals actually fell.

This contributed to Wix falling from the #2 position to the #3 position behind Wix.

Wix’s performance in the previous survey was 55.3% of sites that Wix built enjoying a passing Core Web Vitals score.

Wix’s performance actually dropped to 54.0% this year.

#5 Core Web Vitals Champion: WordPress

WordPress remains ranked #5, which is the same spot it was ranked back in October.

WordPress performance increased from 31% to 37.4%.

This is a significant amount of improvement that can reflect the good work the WordPress performance team is working on within WordPress to improve WordPress performance.

The WordPress performance team recently released an experimental performance plugin as part of their effort to try out performance improvements before moving to the core WordPress core.

Further improvements may be seen in the next versions of WordPress.
