Terming the “time-tested” ties between India and Maldives as a “strength of stability” in the region, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said the shared responsibility of both the countries is to nurture and strengthen it.
In a joint press conference with Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Jaishankar also said that the bilateral ties are poised to take a giant leap to touch the lives of the people of both the countries like never before.
“It is a partnership that tackles common challenges, it is a force for stability in the region. It is our endeavor to nurture and strengthen this,” Jaishankar, who arrived here earlier in the day as part of his five-day two-nation visit to Maldives and Sri Lanka, said. The shared responsibility is India’s two major maritime neighbours.
Maldives is one of India’s major maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean region and bilateral defense and security ties have grown upwards over the years.
