Overall, about 60% of the respondents said that the environment is in very serious danger, while another 15% were of the opinion that it is in some danger. In fact, 3 out of 4 Indians are convinced that the environment is in trouble. In contrast, less than 10% of residents felt that the issue of environmental degradation had been exaggerated.

This opinion was shared by almost all sections of the Indian society. While 61 per cent of those aged 18 to 24 felt the environment was in grave danger, 56 per cent of those above 55 felt the same.
About 61% of Dalits or an equal proportion of scheduled castes and upper caste Hindus said the environment was in grave danger.
More than 50% of the respondents in each category, except Scheduled Tribes, believed that the environment was in grave danger.
As one moved up the educational and income ladder, concerns about the state of the environment increased. While 52.3% of the less educated felt the environment was in grave danger, more than 75% of university or college graduates felt the same way.
