Javed was in the court for hearing in his defamation case against actor Kangana Ranaut. He filed a complaint in the court in November 2020, claiming that Kangana had made defamatory statements against him in a television interview, which had allegedly damaged his reputation. Recently, the court had dismissed Kangana’s plea for exemption from appearing for hearing in the matter.

However, Javed told India Today on Thursday that he makes a point of appearing in every hearing. “Main tryna ki har baar hoon (I try to come every time),” he said. Javed said, “Jo karya hai, khatam toh karna hi hai (We have to finish what we have started).

Seeking permanent exemption from appearance, Kangana had said that she is one of the top female actors of the Hindi film industry and needs to travel to different parts of the country and international locations for professional commitments. The court, however, rejected her application and said, “No doubt, being a celebrity, the accused (Kangana) is doing her professional work, but she cannot forget that she is an accused in this case.”

The court order had said, “If at this stage the accused is granted permanent exemption, the complainant, a senior citizen, would be seriously prejudiced and there would be no progress in the trial.” Javed’s lawyer opposed the petition, saying that Kangana was showing a careless attitude towards the court.

In his complaint, Javed claimed that Kangana dragged his name during an interview while referring to a ‘kotri’ present in Bollywood after the alleged suicide by actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Kangana later filed a counter-complaint against Javed in the same court for alleged “extortion and criminal intimidation”. The actor claimed in his complaint against Javed that following his public spat with his co-star, the lyricist invited him and his sister Rangoli Chandel to his house “with malicious intent and ulterior motives and then criminally intimidated them”. and threatened”.
