IPL 2022, RR vs KKR: Wanted to bowl googly but changed my mind, says Yuzvendra Chahal after hat-trick helps Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said his googly was coming well but he decided to go for a safer option on the delivery which got him his first hat-trick in IPL and helped his team win against Kolkata Knight Riders. Helped to win by 7 runs. on Monday.
Declared player of the match, Chahal beat some brilliant batting from Shreyas Iyer (85) and Aaron Finch (58) to take his first hat-trick in the IPL. Having dismissed Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer earlier, the 31-year-old from Haryana claimed an impressive 5/40 for his best figures of the season.
With opener Aaron Finch hitting 58 off 28 balls and skipper Shreyas Iyer hitting 85 off 51 balls, it looked like KKR were on their way to victory. Both Finch and Shreyas shared a 106-run partnership for the second wicket in a short time.

“I was thinking of a googly but then I didn’t want to take any chances. My hat-trick would have been happy with the dot ball on the ball as well,” said Chahal.

The leggie said that he changed his decision at that very moment, even though his googly was coming well and he claimed a wicket a few overs earlier. He said, ‘My googly was coming out well and passed it to Venkatesh Iyer.

Chahal turned the match on its head by claiming his 21st hat-trick of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he dismissed Shreyas Iyer, who was caught lbw while trying to whip a delivery pitching in the middle. On the next ball of the 17th over, Chahal caught Shivam Mavi by Riyan Parag and completed his hat-trick when Pat Cummins took Sanju Samson back – with a jump and a slide off for a long celebration.
