Who hasn’t spent hours watching cat videos, watching a farmer wake up his animals on Tik Tok, or just enjoying some quiet moments with his bird, spider, snake or lizard?

Human and animal life have been closely related since ancient times.

It’s no surprise that there is a growing trend to include pets at home, at work, and when shopping.

Today, customers are demanding more pet-friendly products and services.

Even workplaces are creating pet-friendly perks to improve morale and work-life balance.

Pets are taking over our lives and our workplaces

Animals have traditionally played four important roles in work:

An overwhelming 71% have made significant life changes because of their pets. Ahead:

  • 48% of respondents said that pets improved productivity at work.
  • More than 2/3 of the respondents said that pets helped them form an average of seven new friendships at work.
  • 42% said their offices stock pet supplies like bowls and bags.

Why do pets work at work?

We know that pets have a positive impact on employees and customers. Studies show that they increase the number of positive emotions that work teams feel and increase the number of prosocial behaviors during the workday.

But the benefits go far beyond just being happy.

Pets help people deal with stress and uncertainty, providing much-needed relief in stressful moments.

And anyone whose dog just got her out of bed at 7 a.m. on a holiday will tell you that many pets thrive on routine (and even demanding), which helps them stay motivated and start the day. helps in.

Pets often require attention or need to be let out during the day, encouraging employees to take some time to hang out. Or at least do something different.

We like people we recognize as being like ourselves. And we trust them even more.

Pets also tie home and work life together, potentially increasing company loyalty and improving working relationships between teams and team members.

There is a halo effect.

If you have touching or memorable moments with your pet at work, they make you feel good while working and in that context.

You associate those positive feelings and moments of affection with your job (or at least the place you work), counteracting negative feelings and your association with work and stress.

In fact, when people are allowed to bring their pets, they report extreme job satisfaction.

How to Bring the Benefits of Pets to Your Business

Creating official pet policies is just one way to become more pet friendly.

Incorporate them into the company culture. Use team-building opportunities. You won’t be the first workplace to do so.
