Director Simon Curtis opens up on ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’

After six successful seasons and entertaining audiences with a feature film, Crowley is back with another feature film with Downton Abbey: A New Era. The sequel to the British television show and film, Downton Abbey 2 is all set to hit the theaters in India on June 3. Talking about working with the cast once again, many of whom are reprising their roles, director Simon Curtis says, “I’m so lucky to have made something like David Copperfield and Cranford for television. , which meant I had experience working with a large ensemble cast. The intimidating thing about directing Downton is that there is no such thing as an easy scene.”

He adds, “There can be four mini-scenes and four different groups of interactions within a larger scene, which all require coverage from different angles, and all take time.”

Along with the Crowley sisters, Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery) and Edith Pelham, now the Marchionnes of Hexham (Laura Carmichael), the project also marks the return of the fan-favorite character Lady Violet, played by Maggie Smith. – TMS
